Freeze

Simply putting your leftover roast in a baggie in the freezer can be a life saver down the road.

Having meat that is prepped is such a relief when you find yourself in a pinch.

Leftover venison roast that you pull out of the freezer should be thawed in most cases, before preparing the dish. You can make any of the ideas listed above in this post, or just heat and enjoy like a regular fresh roast from the crockpot.

Always label and date your bags. You can also write down which part of the freezer you are putting it in: The meat shelf, in the door, leftover tub etc.

There are many tips and recommendations online for cooking deer meat and other wild game, to get the perfect, tender venison dish that you desire.

The most common cooking method tip for venison is to cook low and slow. Slow cooker venison roast, for example should be cooked in the crockpot on a low heat setting for 8-10 hours, rather then high heat for five hours. Slow cooking lessens the strong gamey taste and helps the meat to be fall-apart tender.

Great tip on searing the roast before cooking in the crockpot! I cook my venison roast long in the crockpot, but they are tender yet dry it seems. I think maybe searing will be the ticket! Great idea.,

I’ve got frozen leftover boneless reindeer roast, very aged, rare and tender. I’ve been looking for an idea for what to do with it, and after looking at your suggestions have decided to do a sort of stroganoff with a combination of fresh mushrooms and reconstituted dried porcini, to be served with smashed potatoes and peas. I don’t have a lot of meat, so I think this will stretch it nicely. I have some lingonberry jam to go with it – should make a nice Sunday dinner for three!
