Sourdough Baker’s Gift Guide
Wondering what to get that friend or sister that is getting into the world of sourdough baking? This sourdough bakers gift guide is a list that covers the basics (and really all you need) to get started baking sourdough bread right from the comfort of home!

If you are considering getting your bestie, sister, aunt, neighbor or coworker a really nice gift for Christmas this year, and you know they are into sourdough baking or getting their feet wet, so to say, then this list is all you need to know exactly what items are recommended and necessary for getting that perfect loaf of sourdough fresh from the oven!
These items are either exact ones that I use and can strongly recommend or they are similar to what I have.
Dutch Oven
This 5 qt dutch oven is perfect for holding that beautiful boule shape of dough and baking her to perfection!
I love that Dutch oven’s can be used for so many other purposes like soups, stews, frying and boiling.
Bannetons
Bannetons give a perfect mold and shape to that rising loaf of sourdough bread!
A tip with bannetons is remember that you can remove the cloth lining in the basket and throw it in the washer after each use or when needed!
Beeswax bread bags

These are THE recommended way to store your sourdough bread in for optimal freshness and to prevent mold growth.
Beeswax bread bags are a bag made out of cotton cloth. They are coated in a mixture of beeswax and jojoba oil which helps to seal the bag abasing too much air exposure but at the same time allowing breathability which helps extend the life of the bread.

Bread lame/scoring knife
This was one area I greatly struggled with when I first started sourdough. It seemed that each time I had my beautiful loaf sitting on the counter ready to shape, I was so excited thinking surely this time I can do it! I’d be disappointed each time.
Until I changed bread lames.
It can make all the difference!
Kitchen apron
A woman with an apron is right at home in her own kitchen! She looks settled, accomplished and capable!
This kitchen apron is very versatile and easy to wear with the cross back and strings to tie. When soiled, simply throw into the washing machine!
I like to keep several aprons available in my rotation. A great time to wear aprons is when you’re canning, baking, cooking and preparing any type of food in the kitchen. I love to dry my hands on my apron when they get wet while working or after I wash them at the sink!
Bread knife
One of the most common ways of injuring one’s self in the kitchen is with a knife slipping while in use!
Sourdough crusts are extra thick and tough. Using a knife that is specially designed with a serrated edge like this, makes slicing into a sourdough loaf much safer and faster!
My husband gifted me with this exact knife and I use it EVERY time I cut into my bread now. It truly was one of the nest investments for our from-scratch kitchen.
Parchment paper
Baking your boule in a Dutch oven requires parchment paper lining. This rolls will get you through the beginning phases and much longer!
Tip- cut the piece you need, much larger then the bottom of the Dutch oven. That way you have something to grip as you life and lower your dough into the Dutch oven to bake.
