Nothing is quite as refreshing on a hot summer day then a nice large glass of lemonade. Fresh and homemade. Mmmmmmm! Having lemons on hand serves more then just one purpose. (Wink wink!)
I personally don’t care for kitchens that are over done with the decorations; it just makes for too much of a busy and chaotic atmosphere and feel in the room. So instead, I aim for some simple things to be the focal points and then add in accents, keeping in mind the simple and cozy feel I am going for.
In this post I will be sharing with you all you need to know when looking for items to use, as well as my secrets and methods for simple kitchen lemon decor ideas on a tight budget. So keep reading!
Some of my favorite Simple Lemon Decor Ideas:
Lemon decor items can be added to just about any area of your kitchen.
The coffee bar area, window sill, kitchen table, kitchen countertop spaces, countertop corners, open shelving, hooks, and much more! That is one of the most fun things about the lemon theme. It works anywhere in the house and lemon themed decor pieces and the actual lemons (as opposed to fake lemons) can be set in many different prominent places in the kitchen.
A bowl of lemons on the table adds so much flavor to the room and is an easy way to display the lemon theme in a eye-catching place.
Something as simple as a dish towel with a lemon on it, or a dishtowel that is yellow and acts as an accent color, is a great way to bring out the lemon theme going on.
I made a DIY valance curtain using some cotton fabric with lemons on it. I love the way it turned out! I utilized the remaining fabric as a DIY table runner by folding it into a long rectangle and over laying it on a strip of burlap. It gives the perfect accent touch together! I’m hoping to make some lemon beeswax wraps, too, at some point soon. (To purchase your own beeswax wraps click here to go to my shop. Or read this post here on how to use beeswax wraps to replace plastic wrap).
There are lots of easy ways to incorporate lemons into your kitchen, so keep thinking!

What colors go with lemon decor?
It depends on the color of your kitchen. If you have a country blue accent going on, then some greenery, or yellow would go well. I wouldn’t add too much variation other than that. Going over board on the colors will make the room appearance clash and be too busy.
Some recommended colors to go with lemon decor would be:
- different shades of blue
- buffalo check
- yellow
- burlap
- green (greenery)
Again, don’t interfere too much with your current colors. Find colors that accent your kitchen AND the lemon theme.
Let’s talk a little about a kitchen.
The kitchen is the heart of the home. So many family memories are made in the kitchen. It is a place of gathering for family meal times, a place of moms and dads working together to prerpare a delicious meal and little children finding joy in helping at the counter or washing dishes with mommy.
Setting the tone and atmosphere in the kitchen is largely affected by the mood of the decor. Why not go for something fun, cheerful and invigorating like lemons!
When considering simple lemon kitchen decor ideas, it is imprtant to figure out the budget you have to work with.
If you have a decent amount, then make a list of things based off perhaps a pinterest photo you saw, that you would like to have in your own lemon themed kitchen.
So, for my secrets-
Secret #1- of Simple Lemon Kitchen Decor Ideas
Instead of going out on a shopping spree, start accumulating the items over time. I began the hunt for things for the lemon theme around Christmas time, shortly after New Year’s, I think specifically.
It is now April and I am happy with how the kitchen looks. I picked up things here and there throughout the last few months. I saved money and only bought items as they came on sale, versus purchasing 5 items, say, at regular cost.
Whenever I went thrift store shopping I found more pieces to add to my collection.
The items that I did purchase brand new on sale were from some stores like Hobby Lobby, JoAnn Fabrics, Dollar Tree and Menards.
I also hunted up some decor pieces I had on hand that could accent what I had already. (Usually solid color items). Some examples are a dark navy dish, a succulent plant, wooden tiered tray, buffalo check dish towel etc.
If I come across something I really really like, or find at a thrift store, I will still get it to add to my lemon kitchen decor.
Adding a splash of lemon color here and there throughout the kitchen is a perfect way to incorporate the theme and color pop throughout the room.
Pro tip for strategic shopping: Watch for end of the year sales. When stores begin discounting summer items, check for what you’re needing. I know it’s hard to be patient then if you want to decorate with the lemon theme right away, but I promise you, it’ll be fun saving up and collecting until spring! But who said lemons are only for the spring and summer months, anyways?!

Secret #2 of Simple Lemon Kitchen Decor :
Don’t let limited kitchen space or a tight budget keep you from achieving your lemon themed kitchen!
First thing to set straight if you are having doubts- You don’t have to have a large spacious modern white kitchen with ample counter space, granite counter tops or a cute little side table coffee bar in order to have a beautiful lemon themed kitchen.
You can most certainly have a gorgeous lemon themed kitchen just the way your kitchen is currently with the addition of some cute lemon decor pieces.
Since my kitchen is small, I don’t have a lot of extra room to work with for decorations, so I have to think
- practicality and
- functionality
Adding actual lemons to a dish in the middle of the kitchen table, in place of another decoration, is practicality. You both use the lemons and they are also stunning to set out and display.
I have a few pieces of wall decor on the kitchen wall above the sink as well as on the right side as you enter the kitchen. Open shelving is also a great way to incorporate places for lemon decor.
Here is a starter list for simple lemon kitchen decor ideas
- lemon table runner
- lemon curtains
- bowl of fresh lemons
- lemon decorated tiered tray decor
- lemon decorations (mini easel stands, lemon salt and pepper shakers, lemon signs,..)
- faux lemons
- lemon placemats
- lemon flower vase
- lemon storage canisters
- lemon kitchen utensil set
- lemon kitchen accessories
- lemon tea towels
- lemon wallpaper
Start small and don’t have too high expectations. Keep collecting your items. When the exciting day comes that you have enough items to do the mini refresh, then ta-da! Get out the box and start arranging the items. Set things out, rearrange, stand back and analyze, then rearrange again.
Don’t go for perfect. That will slow and weigh you down. Be happy with your work!
Adding a lemon dish towel (or a color that will accent your kitchen well) is the perfect addition to finalize your mini makeover.
Don’t forget to light a lemon scented candle, or better yet (unless the candle is all natural), turn on your diffuser with several drops of lemon essential oil in it.
Lastly, go make yourself a tall glass of fresh squeezed lemonade with some fresh lemon slices, and sit back, sip and smile!

Or, if by the time you have accumulated your items, using my method, and by then you decide to go for a different style look, you can gift this collection to a friend.
In conclusion, whether you are looking to redecorate the living room, dining room, or a bedroom, these simple tips should give you some highly achievable motivation and ideas to get you started.
