Tips:

Allow cream cheese and butter to come to room temperature before using. To speed up the process you can place them in a ziplock baggie in a bowl of hot water.

When spreading frosting on a cake or bars, don’t try to spread a big whole glob on at once. Do it in small increments. It will help keep the frosting from picking up crumbs.

Recipe

1 (8 oz) block cream cheese, softened

6 T butter, softened

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1 T honey

1 tsp vanilla flavoring or extract

How to make low sugar frosting with cream cheese

Make sure the cream cheese and butter are softened before making the frosting.

Mixer and bowl

Add all ingredients to a stand mixer with whipping attachment or use a measuring jug with lid protection and a hand mixer. (This is what I usually do. Less fuss then pulling out my Kitchenaid.)

Beat for 3-4 minutes on medium high until fluffy.

Spread on cake right away!

Refrigerate after one day. Enjoy!

How to store

After a day, place frosted dessert or frosting into the fridge.

To make ahead of time, you can mix ingredients all together and place in fridge. When ready to use, allow to come to room temperature and then beat again until fluffy and soft.
