Not just your little ones, but your older kids will love snacking on these fun gluten free snack options that are nutritious and bursting with vitamins and minerals to help your toddlers develop, grow and thrive as they are being consciously fed “healthy” rather then “fast food”.

This list of 11 healthy gluten free snack ideas for toddlers includes a combination of recipe links I have sourced as well as other various snack idea options that are healthy and gluten-free.

I also include easy methods to prep snacks and foods ahead of time to have on hand for eating and also Amazon links to gluten-free packaged snacks that can be handy to have on hand for those moments that we need them for!

Those with confirmed celiac disease, gluten intolerance or a gluten sensitivity will find this post not only helpful and informative but also encouraging – it doesn’t have to be complicated or overwhelming to cook and food prep with allergies. Let this article help ease any anxiety or overwhelm you may be feeling. You got this, Mama!

Gluten-free foods and snacks are becoming easier to source in your local grocery store. It is almost as simple to walk into a store and find what you are looking for, as it has been to rely on online shopping for many items we need in gluten-free form.

Some of the best gluten-free snacks are simple homemade items and fresh fruit and veggies with homemade dips. Or have you tried taking a banana slice and spreading peanut butter on it? SO GOOD! You’re feeding your child a healthy fat and protein plus bananas are a good source of fiber.

As as parent we want to feed out kids healthy foods and snacks and while this can get pricey, some are hindered by the labor involved to prepare and bake and source foods that are natural.

Yes it CAN be pricey at times but the good news is that it is really not that much work! All it takes is doing some food prep once or twice a week for maybe an hour and then you are set to go!

Practical ways to prep healthy foods and snacks ahead of time

Wash fresh fruits and veggies and store in mason jars in the fridge

Make a homemade dip for the veggies if they like it

Boil eggs

Bake some muffins, cookies, banana bread etc

Make a batch or two of granola balls (see recipe)

Go shopping to buy cheese sticks and a few other healthy packed snack otpions

Gluten free flour substitutions for baking

As a reminder, if you like to bake you can still do that by substituting whole wheat or white flour for gluten-free flour options. Or there are thousands of gluten-free specific recipes online or in cookbooks available to use today.

Some of the most common flours used for gluten-free baking are:

Rice flour and rice flour blends

Almond flour

Common sweetener replacements for white sugar

Maple syrup

Honey

Stevia

Erythritol

How white sugar and corn syrup affect your child

Sugar and corn syrup seem to be hidden in so many food products these days. Not just cakes and pastries anymore! An overload of sugar has been linked to increased risk of tooth decay, liver problems, heart disease, and even cancer. Research has also evaluated the effects that overconsumption of sugar can have on the brain, finding that the effects can be similar to drug addiction. See source.

Why does a protein snack positively affect children so well?

Some things parents look for when sourcing a healthy snack for their child is the protein and sugar content. Children are proven to thrive and focus mentally better after they have had a serving protein regularly throughout the day, or at least when they are snacking or eating.

Research recommends to try to include protein each time your child is eating whether it is at mealtime or snack time.
