Cuisine American
- 5-6 cups sliced apples
- 2/3 cup maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons tapioca granules or cornstarch (add more if using frozen apples
- Sourdough topping:
- 1 1/2 cups unbleached white flour
- 1/2 cup wheat flour
- 1/4 cup unrefined sugar or brown sugar
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1 cup sourdough starter (I used fed starter) but I think discard will work!)
- 1/2 cup melted coconut oil or butter
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Additional 1 tablespoon sugar for sprinkling on top of biscuits
- 1/4 cup water (omit if using frozen apples)
Peel and slice the apples
Place the apples inside the crockpot
Add cinnamon, nutmeg, tapioca granules, and sweetener
Stir it together well
Melt the coconut oil or butter
Mix the topping ingredients all together
Use your hands and make little ball with the dough. Pat in your hands and place in crockpot on top of apples
Sprinkle with 1-2 Tablespoons of brown sugar if desired
Cook on high for up to 4 hours or on low for up to 8 hours. Do not over cook. If excess moisture is congregating inside the crockpot, then slant the lid for a little while.
Serve with any of my serving suggestions above. Enjoy!
Canned apple pie filling can be used in place of using fresh apples. I have also used homemade peach pie filling in this recipe.
Brown sugar can be replaced for the sweetener if you prefer.
